Confession of Sin:
Michael Osborn, Worship Leader
Eternal God, in the presence of our enemies, we divide and demonize. When you face our enemies, you choose neither contempt nor punishment, but set a table and make provision for us all. Our ways are not your ways, O Creator, and they are an affront to the work of your hands. Have mercy on us, O God, and heal us. Send our risen Lord among us again to repair relationships and restore humanity. Set us free to share the love of Christ Jesus just as he does at his table.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination:

First Reading:
Isaiah 65:17-25
17 “For I am about to create new heavens and a new earth! The things of the past will not be remembered or come to mind!
18 Be glad and rejoice forever and ever in what I create, because I now create Jerusalem to be a joy and its people to be a delight!
19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and delight in my people; no more shall the sound of weeping be heard in it or the cry of distress.
20 No longer will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or old people who do not live out their days. They die as mere youths who reach but a hundred years, and those who fall short of a hundred will be thought accursed
21 At last they will live in the houses they build, and eat the fruit of the vineyard they plant.
22 They will not build for another to inhabit; they will not plant for another to eat. For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, and my chosen ones will enjoy the fruit of their labors.
23 They will not labor in vain or bear children doomed to die; for they and their descendants are a people blessed by God.
24 Even before they call upon me, I will answer; and while they speak, I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb will feed side by side; the lion will eat straw like an ox. Serpents will be content to crawl on the ground; they will not injure or destroy in all my holy mountain,”
says [Adonai].

Anthem: “Easter Chorale and Alleluia”
PCM Chancel Choir

Second Scripture:
John 20:1-18
1 Early in the morning on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb. She saw that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance,
2 so she ran off to Simon Peter and the other disciple— the one Jesus loved —and told them, “The Rabbi has been taken from the tomb! We don’t know where they have put Jesus!”
3 At that, Peter and the other disciple started out toward the tomb.
4 They were running side by side, but then the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
5 He didn’t enter, but bent down to peer in and saw the linen wrappings lying on the ground.
6 Then Simon Peter arrived and entered the tomb. He observed the linen wrappings on the ground,
7 and saw the piece of cloth that had covered Jesus’ head lying not with the wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself.
8 Then the disciple who had arrived first at the tomb went in. He saw and believed.
9 As yet, they didn’t understand the scripture that Jesus was to rise from the dead.
10 Then the disciples went back to their homes.
11 Meanwhile, Mary stood weeping beside the tomb. Even as she wept, she stooped to peer inside,
12 and there she saw two angels in dazzling robes. One was seated at the head and the other at the foot of the place where Jesus’ body had lain.
13 They asked her, “Why are you weeping?” She answered them, “Because they have taken away my Rabbi, and I don’t know where they have put the body.”
14 No sooner had she said this than she turned around and caught sight of Jesus standing there, but she didn’t know it was Jesus.
15 He asked her, “Why are you weeping? For whom are you looking?” She supposed it was the gardener, so she said, “Please, if you’re the one who carried Jesus away, tell me
where you’ve laid the body and I will take it away.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned to him and said, “Rabboni!” —which means “Teacher”.
17 Jesus then said, “Don’t hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to Abba God. Rather, go to the sisters and brothers and tell them, ‘I’m ascending to my Abba and to your Abba, my God and your God!’”
18 Mary of Magdala went to the disciples. “I have seen the Teacher!” she announced. Then she reported what the savior had said to her.
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Triumphant God, we join the crowds of the ages in shouting your praises. While our lips give you glory, our lives seldom reflect your purposes. We sing easily of your greatness, but living faithfully is often beyond us. We hear of your salvation, yet sin is still close and real, daily leading us away from you. Have mercy on us. Ride into our hearts with healing grace. Forgive what we have done and direct who we shall be. Lord, save us. Hosanna!

20 This is the gate of [Adonai], and only the upright can enter!
21 thank you for hearing me, for saving me.
22 it was the stone which the builders rejected that became the keystone;
23 this is [Adonai’s] doing, and it is wonderful to see.

25 Please, [Adonai], please save us! Please, [Adonai], give us prosperity now!

Anthem: “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”
PCM Bell Choir

Second Scripture:
Luke 19:28-40
28 Having said this, Jesus went ahead with the ascent to Jerusalem.
29 Approaching Bethphage and Bethany, near what is called the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of the disciples with these instructions:
30 “Go into the village ahead of you. Upon entering it, you’ll find a tethered colt that no one has yet ridden. Untie it and lead it back.
31 If anyone should ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’; say, ‘the Rabbi needs it.”
32 They departed on their errand and found things just as Jesus had said.
33 As they untied the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you doing that?”;
34 They explained that the Rabbi needed it.
35 Then the disciples led the animal to Jesus and, laying their cloaks on it, helped him mount.
36 People spread their cloaks on the roadway as Jesus rode along.
37 As they reached the descent from the Mount of Olives, the entire crowd of disciples joined them and began to rejoice and praise God loudly for the display of power they had seen, saying,
38 “Blessed is the One who comes in the name of our God! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40 Jesus replied, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the very stones would cry out!”;
The word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Do you feel it? God’s kingdom is beneath our feet.
We live in the new creation shaped by God out of our brokenness.
Do you know it? God’s reconciling love in Christ has shattered our ways of viewing people.

Confession of Sin:
Chuck McGavren, Worship Leader
On this very day, Waiting God, we admit all the lengths to which we go so we might avoid you. You offer us that kingdom of joy and wonder, yet we would hide in places where temptation waits. You invite us to feast on your grace and peace, but we stubbornly refuse, because you also welcome those we call ‘outsiders.’ We are quick to see all the mistakes that those around us make, but hope you will ignore our foolish choices. Celebrating God, before we come to our senses, we find you running towards us, sweeping us up in your arms, tears of grace mingling with our cries of confession, a mighty river washing away our sinful ways to restore us to new life. In Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we find no limitations on your grace, no reservations about your love, but a feast that overflows with wonder, a place we can finally call home.
Silence for personal confession

* Assurance of Pardon:

We rejoice and give thanks to God who has graced us with mercy. Amen.
