Call to Worship:
God says: I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
The Spirit has come. Alleluia!
Christ says: I will ask the Father and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever.
The Spirit has come. Alleluia!
Come, Holy Spirit, gentle as a dove, burning as fire, powerful as the wind.
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
* Hymn #664 “Morning Has Broken”
* Confession of Sin
Triune God your Spirit brings us many different gifts –
forgive us when we have coveted only the spectacular ones.
Your Spirit speaks to us through many different voices –
forgive us when we have cut off the disconcerting ones…
Your Spirit offers us many different insights –
forgive us when we have considered only the comfortable ones…
Your Spirit invites us into many different moments of possibility –
forgive us when we have closed down the costly ones…
Spirit of the living God, beyond time, and yet here with us now – give us the wisdom to receive and treasure all your gifts, the discernment to hear and respond to your voice, the understanding to see and follow your patterns, and the courage to recognize and seize your moments.
So may we grow in knowledge of Christ’s Kingdom, deepen in dependence on its grace, and love in accordance with its measures.
* Assurance of Pardon

Pastoral Prayer
Spirit of fire, inflame in us a passion for justice and equality:
that we may know the cleansing of our prejudices and fears and proclaim your freedom boldly, caressing your earth with humility.
Spirit of compassion, infuse us with your longings for wholeness and happiness:
that we may reach out to those who are hurting and disordered, enfolding one another with your love and tenderness.
Spirit of wisdom, be within us in our journeying, gently guiding us along right paths:
that we may be led towards transformation and new beginnings in our world.
Spirit of gentleness, touch us anew, releasing in us all that we are afraid of:
that we may know your acceptance of us, and freely accept and embrace others.
Spirit of power, hold us in our powerlessness:
that we may know your strength and become a voice for the voiceless, healing for the wounded and empowerment for the weak.
Spirit of judgement, be tender with us and show us your mercy:
that we may humbly learn of you and not be afraid to be your prophets in the world.
Spirit of comfort, draw near to us in all grief, confusion and pain; in your graciousness, bring hope, consolation and renewal:
that many may look up and discover you in the midst.
Spirit of dance, be our playfulness:
that we may leap and laugh and enter your joy. Give us confidence in life and assurance in death.
As we lift to you these prayers for the world, for the church, for our neighbors, and for ourselves, we also offer prayers from the silence of our hearts, and we speak aloud those prayers, which we share with you and with one another. Spirit of fire, receive these prayers and continue your mighty work among us, through Jesus Christ, our living Lord. Amen.
