Urgent Update: Nicaraguan Government Forces Closure of CEPAD

Dear Friends in Christ,

During our celebration of worship this past Sunday (August 25, 2024), we received from Elder Leslee O’Bradovich an urgent call to prayer for Consejo de Iglesias Evangélicas Pro Alianza Denominacional (CEPAD), which is among 1,500 Non-Governmental Organizations that had their legal status revoked by the government of Nicaragua on Monday, August 19.

According to the CEPAD team, “The future is uncertain right now. The details of exactly how, when, or even if we will be able to continue to serve the people in the rural villages is unknown.” Executive Director Emily Reyes Mendoza provides further information in the letter that you can read when you click here. Emily writes, “We always see a light in the midst of this situation to continue our community work that we have done for 52 years.” While the news of the disruption of CEPAD’s operations is terribly discouraging, we must join with Emily and her team in remaining hopeful that God will reveal the path forward. I urge you to prioritize this need among the prayers that you offer to our God.

Grace & Peace,
Aaron

Prayer for the Nation

This is taken from this week’s edition of our Presbytery newsletter, “Monday Morning.”

Creator God, as we face these uncertain times in our nation, we ask you,
Lord, to dwell among us. We are comforted by the knowledge that You
alone are our Savior and Lord, and the ultimate Master of life. We trust our
nation to Your loving care, Lord. Send Your Spirit to touch the hearts of our
nation’s leaders. Give them the wisdom to know what is right, and the
courage to do it. Give us Your light and Your truth to guide us in our ways
so that we may seek Your will in our lives and impact the world around us
for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
