The following are some of the frequently asked questions regarding the upcoming Capital Campaign. If you have additional questions, do not hesitate to contact us. Click here to send your question to the Campaign committee.ย
Why are we having this campaign?
To erase the debt created by PCM’s building renovation project that was completed in 2018. The original loan amount in 2017 was $1,855,000. Currently, the principal has been reduced to approximately $1,185,134ย (as of 12/31/2025).ย
Why didn’t the original building campaign pay for all the remodel?
The amount of money that was pledged in the original campaign was not sufficient to meet the entire scope of the project as envisioned by the congregation. When it all began, one of the first steps in the process was a comprehensive survey among church members regarding the types of things that were important to be completed in a building project. From the new Commons space and the kitchen remodel, to “refreshing” the remainder of the building, PCM members were requesting a significant scope of work be performed. Instead of performing a reduced amount of work based on the money pledged, and thereby falling short of member expectations, the Session made the decision to borrow additional money to complete the entire renovation as one project. This decision was made with the knowledge that future capital/debt reduction campaigns would be needed.ย
How much money do we currently pay towards our debt?
Our current monthly payment is approximately $11,112 ($133,347 annually). It needs to be noted that this money does not come from our operating budget. Instead, we have approximately $423,251 in reserves from the previous capital campaign which is being used towards loan repayment. It should also be noted that the amount of money we have in reserve will only make our payments for approximately three years. We would still be well short of meeting our overall loan obligation.ย
What would happen if we do not have a campaign, or we are not successful at raising money?
As mentioned in the previous response, we have three years worth of reserves for making payments. Once that is depleted and if we do not raise additional funds, our loan payments will then need to come from our annual operating budget. The monthly loan payment of $11,112 would place a tremendous strain on our operating budget. The burden of $133,347 annually would likely cause us to eliminate staff and programming to make the payment. PCM’s ministry would be significantly diminished and the burden could even ultimately result in a closure of the church.ย
Why don’t we pay the $423,251 in reserve towards the principal immediately? Wouldn’t that reduce the amount of overall interest we pay?
Yes, technically it would. However, we still would need to make payments towards the remaining balance on the loan (approximately $700,000, plus interest). If we deplete our reserves, and until money is being received as a result of the campaign, we would be unable to meet our obligations.ย
What is the campaign goal?
The goal is to completely erase the debt during the next three years. Best case is that we receive sufficient pledges that when combined with our cash reserve, allow us to pay off the entire debt by the end of year three.
How long is the campaign?
The campaign is approximately 3-years in length. It officially kicks-offs on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The pledge drive portion is the entire month of March ending on Sunday the 29th. The pledge collection portion of the campaign begins in April and will stretch thirty-three months. The campaign ends December 31, 2028.
How do I make a pledge?
There are three options for making a pledge to the campaign.
First, you can submit your pledge using the online commitment form that is part of this website. Look for the menu above and select “Commitment Form.” Upon submission of the form, you will receive an email confirmation that has a PDF file attached of your completed pledge form. This can be retained for your records.
Second, if you are a One Church user you can make a pledge directly in the “Giving” section of your profile. Look for the tab labeled “Pledges.” Hit the red “Add Pledge” button. This will open a submission form. The first line of the form will give you a drop down menu. Select “2026- 2028 Capital Campaign.” Complete the remainder of the form and click “save.”
Third, click here to download a print version of the pledge form. Complete the form and return to the church.
Does making a commitment to this campaign replace the pledge I made last fall?
No. A commitment to the Capital Campaign is above any financial commitment you made last fall towards the 2026 operating budget. We are asking that you give the church additional money specifically to retire our outstanding loan debt. However, we recognize that everyone may not be in a financial position to give additional money. If that is the case, we would ask that you continue donating towards the commitment you made in the Fall Stewardship campaign. Receiving your contributions towards the church operating budget is equally important.ย
How long do I have to pay my pledge to the Campaign?
The Campaign duration is thru December 21, 2028. We would ask that you fulfill your commitment in that timeframe. You are welcome to make your donations in any amount and at anytime. Obviously, the earlier you pay your pledge, the earlier the money can be paid towards our loan which in turn helps reduce the amount of interest that is paid on the debt. Regardless, if you want to pay in a lump sum, yearly, quarterly, monthly, or even weekly, we encourage you to make your donation on a schedule that is comfortable for your family.ย
